The Fortune Teller

It was my turn. As I entered the tent that night and shut the world behind me, I faced with great expectations the fortuneteller on whom I had placed all my hope. My problems were getting the better of me. Whatever she said was going to determine my next course of action – to hope for the best or to end my life.

She was not one who said much. She motioned me to take a seat and once I had settled in, she started the business for the day. She gazed at me intently for a while before focusing her attention on her crystal ball. She mumbled a few words, touched the ball and then continued gazing at the ball. I tried to read her facial expressions. The changes in colors in the ball did bring some changes in her countenance. There were times I could infer surprise, fright, worry and peace from her face. When she was done gazing at the ball, she looked up to me with a smile.

“I know why you are here,” she finally spoke. “You want to know your future. You want to know if things will get better.”

I nodded.

“It will get better.”

I gave out a deep sigh of relief, making me realize I had been holding my breath.

“There will be dark days, and there will be stormy nights.  There will be a time you will feel there is no point to life, but if you just hang in there, you will see the bright days ahead of you. It is going to get better.”

With a smile on my face, I gave her all that was in my pocket. I drew back the tent flap to see the sun rising. Just before I could comment about the sudden change from dusk to dawn, I woke up to realize I was having a dream.

Thank God it was all a dream. I do not need a fortune teller to predict my future. Neither do you. You and I have the promises from the One who does not lie (and everything we need has been paid for). You and I have the promises from the One whose word is final. You and I have promises that are true, tried and tested, and will surely come to pass.

We know in the world there will be trouble, but we should be courageous because Jesus has overcome the world and through Him we may have peace [John 16:33].

God has told us, “Do not be terrified…The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you…” [Deuteronomy 1:29-30].

He comforts us saying “be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness” [Isaiah 41:10].

Some of His promises may seem delayed in coming to pass but He says, “This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed” [Habakkuk 2:3].

You may look around and it seems He is not near. But He knows where you are going [Job 23:10] and He has said, “never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”So you can say with confidence, “the Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” [Hebrews 13: 5-6].

No I do not need a fortune teller to reassure me. Neither do you. Do not put your trust in princes, or in human beings, who cannot save. Blessed are those whose hope is in the LORD their God. [Psalm 146:3-5, NIV].

Remain blessed and welcome to a new month.

The only question I have for people who seek fortune tellers is: If she’s so powerful as to seeing the future and making a change, why does she remain a fortune teller? WHy hasnt she seen her future and manipulated it into something enviable.

The irony is that these so called fortune tellers DO NOT SEE ANYTHING…Thank God for Jesus Christ!

BTW Hugs and kisses to Mr. Rita’s babe :)

i believe you are right. we do not need any fortune teller. God knows the future than any other person and it is  from him that we can obtain his perfect vision for our lives and the holy spirit is ever present to reveal it to us..i want to add that vision is the vehicle that take us into the future and our minds also need to agree and team up with the vision before it can be realized   (this is the first time I’m commenting on your blog).

I totally agree with you, matter of fact, i feel like fortune tellers are scam artists.

Life gets hard and sometimes we feel like God is taking to long to come to our rescue so we find ourselves looking for help or hope wherever we can find it but i heard something somewhere that just stuck with me “When God says wait, it means ‘Go slow and grow” and waiting for God has always paid off.

    God bless you for sharing
